Former NXT superstar Corey Graves is speculated to return anytime soon
The current RAW commentator, Corey Graves had taken on Seth Rollins in a match at NXT for Rollins’ NXT Championship in 2013. He almost had the match won when other members of The Shield – Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose took him out.
Corey was a promising wrestler. His career in the ring was cut short owing to a series of concussions. Recently in an interview, he declared that he has been cleared to wrestle once again.
Interestingly, Graves has been cleared to compete since after WrestleMania 37. WWE however, hasn’t been able to slot him in for a return to in-ring competition as yet.
Speaking on 100.7 Star On-Demand, Graves recalled his match with Rollins at NXT. Hailing his in-ring chemistry with The Architect, he said:
“I would say right now, Seth Rollins. Rollins, just because he’s a guy that I always had great chemistry with in the ring in NXT, but he has just continued to get better, and better, and better, and is doing some of the best work of his career right now.”
“While he may not be WWE Champion, what he brings every night in this new persona with the dancing, he’s so obnoxious, and he gets under everybody’s skin. I love what Rollins is doing. I would love to mix it up with him one more time.”
Update on Corey’s return
Graves stated that there were no clear plans from the WWE on bringing him back to the main roster. The good news is that it’s heading in that direction.
“To my knowledge, there were no concrete plans, there was no certain way that they were going to use me or introduce me. But it seemed as though it was coming pretty — something was happening. Since then, I focused all my energy on becoming a commentator, because this is something I never experienced before. Never in a million years thought I would do. So, too, it gave me something new to focus on. I went all-in on the commentary gig for several years and now I got to the point where, ‘Alright, I’ve called WrestleMania. I’ve called all the biggest matches, I’ve been all over, I’ve done everything.’ I just kind of felt like I plateaued a little bit and I got bored,” Corey said about his journey into the commentary team.
No Rollins at WrestleMania 38?
Seth is currently teaming up with Owens and this week they are going to face RK-Bro and the RAW Tag Team Champions Alpha Academy in a triple-threat match for the tag titles.
If Seth doesn’t manage to win this week on RAW, he might find himself out of the WrestleMania card. It’s going to be a tough pill to swallow for an accomplished wrestler like him. WWE however, would be mindful of the fact that Rollins is one of their top stars and fans would be disappointed if he isn’t featured on the card. If Owens and Rollins don’t manage to win the titles this week will WWE put Rollins in a match against Graves?
That can be one scenario but it’s highly unlikely. Corey’s comeback could be on the RAW after ‘Mania or at SummerSlam 2022.
