Daniel Bryan brings up hilarious story of his only ever fight with Edge
Speaking on talkSPORT, WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan has opened up on his only ever fight with Hall of Famer Edge.
Daniel Bryan is scheduled to take on Roman Reigns this Sunday on the WWE Fastlane PPV. Should he beat “The Head of the Table” at the PPV event, Bryan will square off against Royal Rumble Winner Edge at WrestleMania 37 next month.
As such, the WWE have sown seeds of a potential rivalry between the two superstars of pro-wrestling, teasing a match on SmackDown recently as well. A bout involving Bryan and Edge would need a much bigger stage though if it is indeed going to happen some time in the future.
Amidst this, Bryan has opened up on the only time he did come up face to face against Edge in a ring on WWE RAW. The two squared off in a bout that lasted about four minutes a long time ago and let’s just say, wasn’t a memorable one. But Bryan fondly recalls it for the hilarious reaction his entry theme song had got back then.
“I got to wrestle him once for four minutes [laughs]. It’s actually kind of a funny story. It was the first time I used Rise of the Valkyries in WWE, but I didn’t know. So Edge is already out there in the ring – this is a RAW match – Miz is on commentary and Billy Kidman, the timekeeper, is like ‘Bryan, do you have new music?’
“I said ‘I don’t know, is it?’ and then as soon as I said is it, it hit. And it wasn’t the version that you have now, it was a much lamer version and I was like ‘Oh no’ and the whole crowd was like ‘what is this’ [laughs]. Miz on commentary was literally like ‘what on earth is this?!’ So hopefully if I get to wrestle Edge at WrestleMania we don’t have a what is this moment!”
Opening up further, Bryan revealed how he respected Edge and admired him throughout his career. Then, the American Dragon went on to draw parallels between his own career and that of Edge. He touched upon how both were forced to retire due to serious injuries when they were at their peaks.
“Edge is somebody I’ve really looked up to my entire career as somebody who is such an incredible performer. I think it’s a great story of two guys who were forced to retire, kind of both at their peaks, right? He had just retained the world heavyweight championship at WrestleMania and he was forced to retire. And now we’re like 10 years on, there’s a really cool story there.”
Given how things are aligned currently, Reigns vs Edge looks the likeliest to happen at WrestleMania next month. But, a rivalry between the Rated-R Superstar and Bryan later down the line is a strong possibility and one that has the potential to blow the roof off the WWE ThunderDome.
