More details emerge about WWE Draft in 2021 with possible dates after SummerSlam
The WWE Draft 2021 is an assurance of big name moves between the two main brands – WWE Raw and SmackDown.
WWE is yet to release any formal announcement about the Draft, which has kept fans waiting who will be expecting to return to arenas for the event. The Draft usually takes place in October, but a reshuffle is on the cards this year.
According to Andrew Zarian‘s ( host of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast) recent twitter activity, he says:
“The WWE Draft is taking place on Aug 23rd & Aug 27th. I’m seeing a few reports that WWE doesn’t have set plans for after the draft. I can tell you that report isn’t totally accurate. WWE has big plans for some who will be switching brands following SummerSlam.”
“With that said… I have heard the goal is to give this year’s draft a bigger feel than the previous for all the reasons you imagine. You have a unique opportunity to hit the reset button on a lot of talent.”
The introduction of fans will be an important factor for WWE to make regarding the moves of Superstars between the brands. SummerSlam is going to take place on 21st August at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Those who aren’t drafted become “free agents.”
What did we witness in the 2020 WWE Draft?
The 2020 WWE Draft was a surprising one with an unfamiliar situation after the previously used Superstar Shake-Up. There were over 60 male Superstars, female Superstars and tag teams. The event was presided over by WWE Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon and announced big moves.
Drew McIntyre moved to WWE Raw, which led to a fruitful rise in his career having won the WWE title earlier in 2020. One of the biggest moves was the draft of current WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. He was joined by his ex-teammate Seth Rollins.
AJ Styles and Sasha Banks, two of the big stars changed shows as The Phenomenal One moved to RAW once again. Finally, the “EST of the WWE” Bianca Belair made a move to SmackDown, where she went on to win her first major title. She beat Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 37 to become the new WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.
