WWE cut many names from NXT in its latest releases and more could be on the way for the Black and Yellow brand

WWE decided to trim down its NXT roster even further with several names being cut. Bronson Reed, Mercedes Martinez, Jake Atlas and Tyler Rust were just some of the big names that were released from the promotion.

Reed even reacted to all this by saying that more was to come from him. However, the timing of it all was a little weird.

Normally WWE releases the talents late at night after a show. This time around, Fightful shared the details of the release in the middle of WWE SmackDown.

That shifted the attention away from SmackDown with many WWE stars even expressing their shock at the names being cut.

However, WON’s Dave Meltzer feared for the NXT brand. WWE has been cutting a lot of talent since WrestleMania and Meltzer believed that more cuts were on the way as WWE had some plans for the talent on the show:

“Yes I think they’ll cut people they think don’t have main roster potential and they do have a very narrow viewpoint of what main roster talent entails. And as developmental, that’s what it was originally supposed to be.”

WWE changing NXT up?

NXT always felt like a different promotion when compared to Raw and SmackDown, but Meltzer’s comments could see a change in the promotion.

WWE has sent a few older stars back on NXT with Finn Balor spending a few months there and then moving back to SmackDown.

Recently, Mandy Rose was also sent to NXT after spending some time on Raw with Dana Brooke. It will also be interesting to see if Meltzer’s comments on true.

NXT aligning itself with SmackDown and Raw will streamline the flow of talent better, but that will come at the expense of development, for sure.
