WWE legend Diamond Dallas Page reveals his dream match against Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
Diamond Dallas Page was a household name in his time in the WWE, after making his debut in the late 80s.
Page and The Rock never got a chance to face off against each other, after McMahon purchased WCW in 2001.
He was speaking on The Angle podcast (h/t Rajah) and named The Rock as the opponent he wanted to face the most:
“When you want to do people’s champion vs. people’s champion (DDP vs. The Rock) call me.”
DDP took a pay cut to come into WWE as his original WCW contract guaranteed him $1.27 million. The move reaped him huge rewards as he went on to become a Hall of Famer in the WWE. DDP’s biggest accomplishment in wrestling came in 1999 when he won the WCW Word Heavyweight Championship.
Earlier, there were reports that WWE rejected the idea of putting The Rock and Page together, as they did not think it would be as effective. The Rock is now rumored to return this year. Reports are emerging that a fight with Roman Reigns is likely to happen in the near future.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon bought rival company WCW and took over the contracts of several WCW wrestlers. Page ended up working in a storyline involving The Undertaker’s ex-wife, Sara.
Diamond Dallas Page opens up about his WWE HOF induction
DDP was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017. In an interview on The Angle Podcast, he reveals the time he got to know about his induction from Triple H, saying: (h/t Rajah.com)
“Triple H and I go way back. When I got his call I was like, ‘Hey bro,’ because I put a call in for him. I thought he was just calling me back.
“He started talking about my career and my work ethic and at some point I started thinking, ‘Is this that call?’ Dusty Rhodes said, ‘D, there are only two things that are real in our business: one is winning your first world championship title and two is that hall of fame ring.’”
Page’s major accomplishments in WCW included winning the the World Television Championship, United States Championships, World Heavyweight Championships and World Tag Team Championships, before moving to WWE.
