Drew McIntyre has to fight in an Elimination Chamber match but Roman Reigns gets an easier run
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and Universal Champion Roman Reigns have different tasks at the 2021 Elimination Chamber.
McIntyre has to face five other superstars in the main event, which is the Elimination Chamber match. The Scot’s title will also be on the line and this is going to be some task for the champion. Reigns too is in action, however, The Tribal Chief has an easier night of action.
He forced himself out of an Elimination Chamber match but will still defend his title. Reigns will face off against the winner of another Elimination Chamber match later in the night, but that would be an easier task compared to McIntyre.
Dave Metzler explained why this took place and this was done in keeping Reigns’ character (h/t Wrestling News):
“It’s a way to get heat on Reigns. Originally, Reigns was going to be in the chamber match. That was the original idea and then I guess they didn’t want to do it on both shows or something. Whatever…they wanted to tweak it, so they tweaked it.”
Reigns being in the Elimination Chamber match would have been great but this twist makes him a more presentable heel.
McIntyre, for his part, has to be on top of his game. His rivals in the Elimination Chamber match are Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Sheamus, AJ Styles and The Miz.
The Miz also has the Money in the Bank briefcase and could use it too. McIntyre has to work hard to keep the title, however, Reigns has to be a little careful too.
The six SmackDown stars fighting it out to face him are Jey Uso, King Corbin, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan.
Owens has been a thorn in the flesh of Reigns for a long time and closed out this week’s SmackDown hitting Stunners for fun.
It will be interesting to see who Reigns ends up facing at the upcoming PPV, but one thing is certain, he will start as the favourite in his clash.
