The former 8-time WWE 24/7 Champion has been signed back by WWE but this time he won’t be seen competing, at least not in the near future.

Drake Maverick has started working in WWE’s creative team for the last 3-4 weeks. According to PWInsider, Drake who has a good mind for the wrestling business will help the creative team with his experience and hopefully churn out good storylines heading into WrestleMania and beyond. He will mainly work for the Raw brand.

The 39-year old took to his LinkedIn page and add to his job history, stating that he began working as a full-time WWE Producer/Writer back in January.

He also updated his twitter bio saying, “Just biding my time to book myself as world champion… You’ll see”

Here’s a look at Drake Maverick’s previous stint with WWE:

Maverick signed with WWE in October 2017, but his debut was postponed due to some visa related issues.

On 30th January, 2018 episode of 205 live, Drake made his debut as a face and was appointed the new general manager of the brand. In his first appearance, he scheduled a 16-man WWE Cruiserweight Championship tournament that would culminate at WrestleMania 34.

Drake debuted on Raw accompanying the tag team AOP (Akam and Rezar) as a heel manager. AOP became tag team champions under his tenure. At the Survivor Series pay-per-view, Maverick was in AOP’S corner in their match against the bar. Threatened by Big Show, Maverick would wet his pants leaving the Big show and the audience in splits.

After Akam got injured, Maverick’s partnership with AOP ended and he remained as a heel on the main roster while on 205 live, he would continue as a face general manager.

When the inception of the 24/7 title came about, Maverick had his funniest moments. He was in pursuit of the title which he and R-Truth exchanged uncountable number of times.

On 12th April 2020, Drake was announced as one of the participants of the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Title Tournament. Three days later, he was released from his contract as part of the budget cuts owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. He still competed in the tournament, and was eventually defeated in the finals.

Triple H offered Drake Maverick a new contract which he signed instantly

After the match, however, Triple H gave him a new contract which he signed immediately. He formed a tag team with Killian Dain. They stayed on for a while but couldn’t win the NXT tag titles. Dain was released from his contract soon after, disbanding the team.

He was once again drafted to the Raw brand and won the 24/7 title twice in that phase before being officially released on18th November.

Drake has a lot of experience and tactical acumen. How he can translate that into impressive offerings, in his new role in the creative team, only time will tell.
