Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre discusses his signature Claymore and Brock Lesnar
The Scottish Superstar Drew McIntyre boasts one of the best finishing moves in his locker with the Claymore and closes out matches with the move.
Now in an interview with Ryan Satin on Out of Character, he discussed his most memorable Claymore and the best one he has ever delivered since its inception. He says: (h/t The Fightful)
“I had never heard a reaction like that in my life. That’s the night that Drew McIntyre arrived in the main event scene after years and years of ‘potential.’ It got to the point where I thought, ‘People are going to say Drew is the past and I was never the present.’ I knew that before I walked to the ring for that moment with Brock and it was such a cool feeling.”
“I wasn’t doing anything significant at the time, just winning some matches. I could feel the crowd rumbling like ‘this guy could take Brock.’ Nothing was planned. He took off his gloves and was ready to go. I called him a bitch and, with the assist from Ricochet, I gave him the Claymore and 40,000 people went insane.”
McIntyre used the move first as a member of the 3MB, after which he revived his career outside the WWE. He returned and made his name up the roster eventually getting his title shot at WrestleMania. He beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 to win his first WWE Championship.
McIntyre struggled to impress despite being named ‘The Chosen One’ when he first entered WWE. He was a good wrestler especially in the Intercontinental Championship feud with Kofi Kingston. But, McMahon felt that he lacked the cutting edge that he needed to fight the big names in WWE.
McIntyre remembers a change when he got the opportunity in a dark match on SmackDown, he kept the crowd entertained till a cage was set for a match. Fans got a glimpse of a different side of the Scot and took a liking to him. McIntyre returned to WWE in 2017 with NXT.
