Drew McIntyre has not given up on chasing his WrestleMania dream
McIntyre captured his first WWE Championship when he eased past Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 36. The Scottish Psychopath then defended his title a plethora of times before losing it to Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell.
However, the Chosen One came back strongly in a matter of weeks, to regain the championship. That’s when his second reign began.
The second reign of McIntyre was quite a short one, as the Miz played spoilsport cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase and executing a Skull-Crushing Finale to pin McIntyre.
Miz went on to lose his title to Bobby Lashley a week later, and McIntyre was set to challenge Lashley for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 37.
McIntyre failed in his attempt, as an interruption from MVP helped Lashley defend his title successfully.
After fighting in front of no fans at WrestleMania 36, it was a weather delay at Wrestlemania 37, even as McIntyre went down fighting to Lashley.
Drew McIntyre has however revealed that he was not done chasing his WrestleMania dream in a recent interview with Sam Roberts on the Notsam Wrestling Podcast.
He claimed that he was not Superman, adding that he wasn’t built to overcome everything. McIntyre called himself the Batman since the people knew his story and he was flawed as well.
“And for Drew McIntyre the character, like, I mean I’ve been on top. Thankfully I’ve been lucky to get this platform, these opportunities for a long time. But my character, I’m not Superman. I’m not made of metal, I’m not from another planet, I don’t overcome everything. People know my story, I’m flawed, I am the Batman.” [via Notsam Wrestling, h/t Wrestling Inc. for the transcription]
McIntyre will have to overcome Bobby Lashley to get his hands back on the WWE Championship.
In the same podcast, McIntyre revealed the importance of Lashley playing an integral role in his character arc.
The Scottish Psychopath claimed that he would fall hard sometimes, and the way he deals with his fall would make things interesting for his character.
He concluded by saying, “To stay relatable as a big guy, and at the same time make someone like Lashley I think is very important.”
