Drew McIntyre wants Randy Orton to be his opponent for WWE SummerSlam
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre called out Randy Orton for a clash at SummerSlam. McIntyre won the title at WrestleMania 36 and has looked unbeatable.
He faces Bobby Lashley at Backlash, but is confident of keeping the crown. McIntyre was speaking to Inside the Ropes and was asked who he wanted to face after Lashley.
While the champion was certain of retaining the crown, he challenged the Viper next:
“Regarding SummerSlam, when I get past Lashley. I am excited that Lashley and MVP together are going to be a good attraction going forward, so, sorry buddy, you are going to lose, getting kicked in the head but you’re gonna be at the top of the card cause that’s where you belong.
“I think [Randy] Orton is the one that has to happen. Right now, we are in a situation building a lot of people including myself, myself and Lashley together.”
McIntyre added that he and Lashley were working hard as a pair to build each other up, but he would be established in a rivalry with Orton.
WWE make it happen
The champion also said that Orton is one of the more established stars in WWE, and others who wouldn’t know of McIntyre would benefit from this rivalry:
“Someone like an Orton can make me work up, learn from. He is an established face. People who have never seen me before will go ‘who is this guy?’, and he is going to help tell that story and really establish me as a top, top player.
“Basically Randy Orton is my Joker. I think there is a great storyline there.”
The Scot seems to be referring to the Batman vs Joker rivalry as one always ensures the other has to be at the best.
McIntyre also spoke about a story already being there between the pair. How he had to work double hard to reach this point while Orton always seemed to make the right decisions and get some luck on his side.
The champion told WWE to book this clash, and it will be interesting to see what is next for Orton. The Viper faces Edge at Backlash after their WrestleMania 36 clash. This is being touted as the Greatest Wrestling Match ever. However, many would also get behind the McIntyre vs Orton rivalry.
