Drew McIntyre reveals how his wife made WrestleMania 36 win even more memorable at home

It would have been a bittersweet moment for Drew McIntyre when he was told that he would be winning the title at WWE WrestleMania 36.

Sweet because it was the culmination of years of hard work and the outcome of an inspired WWE comeback. And bitter because there would be no fans present in the arena due to Covid-19.

This meant that WWE superstars could themselves watch their matches when they were aired for the fans in the comfort of their own homes, considering all of it was pre-recorded.

And ‘The Chosen One’ revealed what made his title win really special as he spoke on the latest episode of the Busted Open podcast.

He credited his wife or making that win even more memorable because of how she handed him the title at home and because he could watch it wither her on the same couch.

McIntyre married his wife, Kaitlyn Frohnapfel, in December 2016, just a few months before the Scotsman made his WWE return on NXT.

“…but in real world, my wife was the one that took the title out and she presented it to me, in real life. That was a special moment because she’s such a big part of this journey. I wouldn’t be where I am right now without her; to have her actually present me the title was pretty cool. And to be sitting there on our couch, on our favourite spot, with our two cats. You know, that was very special. Making the best of the situation.”

McIntyre beat Brock Lesnar in an enthralling match at ‘The Show of Shows’ and it was a shame that fans didn’t get to watch it live.

He had a chance to have his ‘Mania moment in front of the fans at the Raymond James stadium at WrestleMania 37 this year, but that didn’t pan out perfectly for him.

Bobby Lashley beat him via the Hurt Lock to keep intact McIntyre’s record of never winning the WWE title even once in front a live audience.
