WWE superstar Edge has not missing from action since his loss to Roman Reigns last month
Edge made a scintillating return to WWE back in 2020 at Royal Rumble. This was the first time in 9 years that he made an in-ring appearance in pro wrestling.
And fans were truly shocked to see the 47-year-old make such a massive comeback from a career-threatening neck injury that he suffered back in 2011.
So, such a return was bound to have some limitations. At that time, it was rumored that his contract includes him fighting just 5 times in a year.
And as it turns out, that has proven to be true. According to Fightful Select’s Backstage Report podcast (h/t Wrestling Rumours), Edge is taking a scheduled time off.
He was last seen in his WrestleMania 37 showdown against Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan for the WWE Universal title; a match which he comprehensively lost.
With him limited to 5 matches a year, WWE seemed to have exhausted a large chunk of it already. ‘The Rated R Superstar’ has found 4 times this year already.
The first was his return in January 2021 at Royal Rumble, which he went on to win. That was followed by a match each on SmackDown and RAW, with the ‘Mania match being his most recent outing.
There are no reports on when he is expected to fight next. It seems like WWE will save that for a major PPV in the coming months.
Although, nothing can be said as of now. It remains to be seen if he will even fight this year, but it would be unlike WWE to not exhaust all his 5 contractual matches in 2021.
So, fans can expect to see him back in action soon enough- at least once before we are done with his calendar year.
