Edge and Mick Foley had an incredible Hardcore match at WrestleMania 22

Former WWE Champion Edge didn’t get the main event slot at WrestleMania 22 but his clash against Mick Foley will stay in memory for a long time.

The Rated-R Superstar had cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase to win the title from John Cena, and despite great ratings, it wasn’t enough for him to headline WrestleMania 22.

However, he got to fight Foley, a legend, and Edge revealed his initial thoughts to facing the legend during a session with Inside The Ropes:

“This is amazing, I love Mick.”

“Hardcore match, good lord and Mick Foley did want to have a WrestleMania moment but up until that point, he didn’t have that but he deserved it.”

Edge then started thinking what all could be done in that match:

“So I just got on my weird Frankenstein thinking cap, and tried to come up with some stuff and Mick did the same thing.

“And you get these two possibly sadomasochistic men together that are willing to really hurt each other and put us in WrestleMania and you are going to get tables and barb wire and stuff.”

Real pain for Edge and Foley

The pair really took the match to some crazy lengths and Edge confirmed that the barb wire used was real, and it hurt a lot.

However, the former WWE Champion also shared what was the more painful part in that clash, the thumbtacks.

Edge recounted the brutality of that match and added what really sucked:

“Landing on the thumbtacks and going ‘ooof’, but you know what the worst part of that was? After that, I get hit in the stomach with a baseball bat, land on my knees right in thumbtacks.

“It’s a very strange feeling to have thumbtacks in your kneecaps. Don’t try that, don’t even Wikipedia that, that’s not homework at all.

“That’s what I remember and getting it in the palms of your hands. That pretty much sucked.”

The pair also went through a table on fire, and no one remembers the main event from WrestleMania 22.

John Cena and Triple H faced off for the WWE title, however, it was Edge and Foley that stole the show.
