Edge went on to win the 2021 Royal Rumble but he was at the home of new AEW star Christian Cage
The 2021 Royal Rumble was a great moment for Edge as he went on to win the main event. This was a moment that many WWE fans had been waiting for since Edge made his return in 2020.
The Rated-R Superstar was unable to win the 2020 Royal Rumble. However, he was back for good in WWE and will now face Roman Reigns for the Universal title at WrestleMania 37.
The 2021 Royal Rumble was also home for another great WWE moment. Christian, who had been out of action for several years, made his WWE return too.
While Christian had been involved in some non-wrestling storylines, this was proof that Captain Charisma had something left in the tank.
Edge and Christian also shared an incredible moment in the Royal Rumble, something that caught the attention of many fans.
However, that didn’t last long as Christian ended up signing for AEW in a shock move. Edge and Christian might not be on the same show any more but the pair spent time together before the Rumble.
Christian, who is now with AEW, was speaking to Sports Illustrated and highlighted when he got the call for a return:
“He stayed at my house that weekend for the Rumble.
“There were only a handful of people that knew I was cleared, and I got a call at 7:30 that Friday night asking if I’d like to be a surprise in the Rumble. I’ve always bet on myself, so I said, ‘Let’s do it.’ It was a whirlwind from there. We went out there and had a great moment.”
Christian on why WWE deal did not take place
While joining AEW came out of the blue, there were talks over a full-time WWE return.
Christian went on to say there was contact but creatively they didn’t know what was going on:
“There were some cordial talks, and I can’t really elaborate beyond that.
“I’m not sure where their heads were at creatively.”
WWE’s loss is AEW’s gain but Christian knows that he won’t be fighting for the title straight away. He wants to prove his ability in the ring and named some stars such as Darby Allin and MJF who are extremely talented.
Christian isn’t the first WWE star to switch brands, but AEW seems to be hitting the right notes at the moment.
This switch is great for Christian’s career, however, this could be the end of any chance of seeing him team up with Edge for a tag run.
