Former WWE and NXT star Karlee Perez, AKA Maxine, has hit out at the promotion over their latest third party platform policy.

WWE took a huge decision recently as they wanted to control and limit the usage of platforms such as YouTube or Cameo.

That had seen many stars earn extra by creating personalised videos or posting content on YouTube. Many stars had huge channels on other streaming platforms such as Twitch too, but WWE did not want their stars to use their in-ring names.

They were told to stop using the same in 30-days or would face further consequences, which could mean fines, suspensions or even being fired from the company.

Many of them have still continued streaming but they aren’t using their WWE names any more. However, Perez hit out at her former company during an interview with Wrestling Inc. Daily (h/t 411Mania):

“They pick and choose [when] they want to pursue certain things because then they get a piece of it, and that piece of it is large. So if you’re doing the work and you’re putting in the time and you’re doing the acting classes or you’re out there hustling for yourself, why should they get a piece of that?”

Maxine understood that stars wanted to grow as they were in front of millions and The Rock was the perfect example of expanding from WWE to the movie business.

WWE not wanting others to take another route

Perez has featured in a few movies and series after her time in the ring, and she claimed that WWE would try to control people just because they knew they could.

“They do it because they can. I don’t think they do it for any other reason, just the fact that they can do it, and you’re not going to say no. And the people who do say no like myself, that’s looked down upon.”

She went on to say that WWE was scared knowing that their stars could grow and try something else, and that wasn’t something they wanted to push.

Perez spent time on TNA and Lucha Underground too where she made a name for herself, and her thoughts on the third party issue are interesting.

Apart from The Rock, WWE doesn’t have a bona fide star who can perform outside the ring. They have expanded to the WWE Network which contains a lot of shows for their wrestlers to star in.

Many of their reality shows, such as Total Bellas also appear on other TV channels, but WWE does like to keep their stars in check.
