Freddie Prinze Jr brought up creative issues that led to Bray Wyatt’s WWE release
Hollywood star Freddie Prinze Jr spent a few years working as a writer for WWE and still has a few contacts in the company.
Prinze Jr was speaking on the Ringer Wrestling Show and brought up the release of Bray Wyatt. Wyatt was one of the top performers in WWE but was missing since WrestleMania 37. It came as a bit of a shock to learn of his release and Prinze Jr tried to solve some of the riddles surrounding this.
He was asked first asked if Roman Reigns would beat John Cena at SummerSlam and he brought up Wyatt in this discussion (h/t Cultaholic):
“Zero percent outside, unless something crazy behind the scenes happens where they’re gonna punish him because he didn’t work the way they wanted him to work,” Prinze Jr. said. “It’s happened before. It happened to a guy who doesn’t work there anymore… He had multiple personalities, he was a second-genner and named after a horseman.”
Ariel Helwani then wanted to know more about this issue and claimed that as long as things were alright with the top people in the company, possibly Kevin Dunn and of course, Vince McMahon, it was going to work out:
“If you’re willing to work a specific way, even if you have a bad match, in the eyes of the top two dudes at the company it’s a good match because you’re doing business their way. If you’re wanting to step out of that lane and widen your river or just show there’s some other streams, even if you have a great match, it’s just a good match. And when you stick to your guns time and time again, they’re gonna stick to theirs.”
Prinze Jr added that McMahon believes in throwing money to solve problems and even named Dunn as part of his reply.
He then spoke about Wyatt not getting the best of hands and brought up his loss at Saudi Arabia. Prinze Jr added that Wyatt was doing a good enough job:
“His segments weren’t suffering, his performance wasn’t suffering. I just think if you’re not willing to play ball then they let you know, ‘Hey, you’re not trying to play ball. We’re not gonna help you out. We gave you this platform and you’re not using it the way we want you to use it.’ And it’s business, you can understand that.”
