Goldberg and Brock Lesnar left WWE after WrestleMania 20

WWE WrestleMania 20 featured several big matches, including Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar, however, most of them failed to hit the mark.

The grandest event of them all should be talked about for the quality of matches, however, Goldberg vs Lesnar has been talked about for different reasons.

Both stars were set to leave WWE at the end of the event, and the fans certainly voiced their opinions. Goldberg and Lesnar were booed several times and the only cheers came when Stone Cold Steve Austin stunned them.

Austin was the guest referee in that match, but Goldberg came out on top.

The decision to push Goldberg as the winner was taken by Vince McMahon and the star explained to Inside The Ropes as to why he might have won:

“If you’re presented with that scenario and you’re Vince McMahon, what the hell do you do?

“Who do you let win? Who do you hate less? I just wonder how he came to that decision, I really do because it’s like he wanted to kill me and then I know he wanted to kill Brock.

“So I guess he wanted to kill Brock even more so that’s why I beat him.”

Weird feeling for Goldberg

The current Universal champion added that he was happy to be back after 13 years but claimed him leaving WWE at that time was “weird”.

He claimed that no one appreciated all the hard work done by him and Lesnar. Goldberg went on to say that they tried to put on a quality match, however, no one cared and the fans just wanted to boo them.

The champion added that it was “tough” and also hurt his “heart” but he understood the stance from the fans.

Goldberg’s return to WWE has been something different though. He beat The Fiend to win the Universal title and will defend it against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36.

Similarly, Lesnar is the WWE champion and will face Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania.
