Novak Djokovic defaulted in the 2020 US Open after hitting a line judge
The tennis world couldn’t believe the actions of Novak Djokovic as the 17-time Grand Slam winner was kicked out of the US Open for hitting a line judge.
The action took place in a round of 16 match as Djokovic was upset at losing a game to his rival. He was hitting the balls back to the ballboys and ballgirls.
However, a frustrated Djokovic ended up hitting a line judge and the lady collapsed in a heap.
Gregory Helms, known as the Hurricane during his wrestling days, posted a hilarious take on this.
He brought out the art of selling, a method in which wrestlers show how much they have been hurt by a rival’s attack, and claimed this was a great sell job too.
Helms probably was joking about the selling and the video does look a little hilarious when viewed in slow motion. However, Djokovic had to pay big-time for this one moment of madness.
While the best men’s tennis player in the world was looking to pick up another Grand Slam, he won’t be doing that in the 2020 US Open.
Djokovic defaulting meant that he was ejected from the competition. He was the favourite to win the tournament, as he had done in the Australian Open earlier in the year.
The Serbian was also fined all his points and earnings from the competition and it is to be seen if further action is taken against him.
Djokovic was immediately concerned as soon as the ball his the line judge. He rushed to check up on her and a lengthy discussion took place after she was treated.
The officials stuck to the rules of the competition and Djokovic had to leave. This opens up the doors for a new winner of the US Open, and it will be interesting to see what happens next.
