Gunther Stark trademark filing abandoned by WWE

WWE abandoned trademark filling of Gunther Stark after massive criticising

It was previously reported that WWE filed for the ‘Gunther Stark’ trademark – the in-ring name for NXT 2.0 star WALTER with the USPTO for entertainment services.

WALTER is the longest-reigning NXT UK Champion

The filling has been updated now, and it can be seen now that WWE has made the decision to abandon the trademark with the text,

“Status: Abandoned because the applicant filed an express abandonment.”

WWE received a lot of backlash regarding the name change as “Gunter Stark”, who was the name of a person who served as a military u-boat commander for Nazis during World War II, which resulted in them moving forward without the “Stark” last name.

WALTER faced off against Roderick Strong in the main event of this week’s NXT 2.0. The former interrupted the ring announcer and declared that the winner of the match was “Gunter.”

WWE website updates WALTER’s social media accounts to “Gunther”

The company has updated WALTER’s social media accounts, and Imperium’s leader is now officially known as “Gunther”. It was mentioned several days back that there seems to be some sort of a backstory as to why WALTER is now being called “Gunther”, and this is because former WWE NXT Star and current AEW star Kyle O’ Reilly once referred to WALTER by that name on Twitter this past December 2019 when Imperium was feuding with The Undisputed Era in NXT.

Former Million Dollar Champion sent a strong message on Twitter to WALTER’s name change.

“Walter, you need to grow a pair. Seriously you should be embarrassed. Even I who was humiliated as a slave I should have fought harder but this is today. You should know better man. I wish I charged you more for this pic when you begged me for it in the first place.”
