Hurricane Helms had a message for Drake Maverick

Hurricane Helms took to Twitter and put out a hilarious tweet by telling Drake Maverick to have a go at the Cruiserweight Championship.

Helms joked that Maverick should just steal the title, and that could have worked for the 24/7 crown.

The Hurricane, as he was known, was recently released by WWE, but so was the wrestler he was speaking about.

Maverick was among the many in-ring performers WWE released in April. Maverick said he’ll still compete in the interim cruiserweight tournament and that it will likely be his last involvement with WWE.

Maverick, who gained popularity as Rockstar Spud in TNA, signed with WWE in 2017. He was largely limited to on-screen roles out of the ring, first as the general manager of 205 Live

Maverick was also the manager for Authors of Pain. He also had a lengthy feud with R-Truth for the 24/7 Championship.

When the release announcements began pouring in, Maverick became one of the faces of the lay offs with his impassioned reaction video.

Oddly enough, Maverick was billed to be part of the NXT Cruiserweight Interim Championship tournament weeks prior to his release, a point that Drake would confirm that he’s still participating in his video.

Maverick loses to Atlas

Maverick was unable to pickup the win in his first NXT Cruiserweight title tournament match.

The match started with Maverick and Jake Atlas going back and forth equally. At one point, Drake went for his finisher in the corner but Jake reversed it.

The finish came about after Atlas hit a Cartwheel DDT from the top rope. During a post-match interview, Jake addressed his opponent as he was taken to the back by a ref.

Fortunately for Maverick, he’s still in the tournament due to advancement being based on round-robin rules.

Maverick was also shown later in the show fighting back tears on a stairwell backstage while talking about the loss and said, “maybe everybody was right about me.”
