Edge and Mick Foley had one of the greatest WrestleMania matches at WM 22
Former WWE Champion Edge returned to the WrestleMania ring recently as he defeated Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match.
That clash was his second fight since his WWE return, and it was a brutal affair. However, the Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania 36 pales in comparison to what Edge and Mick Foley went through at WrestleMania 22.
The event was set for a Hardcore match and a lot of weapons were used. Tables, chairs, barb wire and thumbtacks were all used brutally in that clash.
However, the biggest spot was Edge sending Foley through a burning table. While many would have thought this was Foley’s idea, the Rated-R Superstar told Inside The Ropes that the planning was all his:
“I didn’t think it through too much. Here’s the thing, if you saw me do something idiotic like that, it was my idea.”
Edge highlighted that he was always trying to do “stupid” things to his body, and all of these were his idea.
The former champion was also reminded that Foley wears a lot of clothing in matches while Edge was always topless.
Edge never really thought about that much but just as he was setting up to spear Foley, he got a few unwanted thoughts in his head:
“I don’t have a shirt on, I am diving face-first into this thing. He’s going into it on his back with 18 layers of clothes on.
“They put this flame retardant gel on us which was washed off within two minutes. I dove through, and tuck my head into Mick’s belly and hope for the best.
“But I wrapped my hands around him, so it burnt my arms, singed a lot of hair off my arms and chunk of my hair on the head and I rolled off and I just saw my body smoking.
“I was trying to make it look like shock, but I was smelling my own burnt flesh.”
Edge finished off by saying that he loved that moment and it was only in wrestling that you could celebrate something like this and beat someone up too:
“It’s only in this industry that you could possibly have two men covered in blood, thumbtacks stuck in their backs and kneecaps, who have just burned each other, but they love each other.”

Foley is a legend in the business and Edge can be counted as one too. Edge’s return to WWE has gone well, and it will be interesting to see who his next opponent is.
