Io Shirai sends a message after single-handedly taking out Sasha Banks and Bayley on NXT
It hasn’t been long since Io Shirai became the WWE NXT Women’s Champion.
She became the champion after defeating Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match at the NXT TakeOver: In Your House.
Wednesday’s edition of NXT saw SmackDown superstars Bayley and Sasha Banks make an appearance to defend the WWE Tag Team Championships against Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart.
The Role Models were able to get the win against the NXT tag team. But following the win, they were in for a surprise.
Io Shirai took down the Tag Team Champions, hitting Bayley with a missile dropkick and following it up with a german suplex on Banks. She then hit the duo with a double knee, forcing them to retreat.
Shirai has a message for Bayley and Banks
After having chased the Tag Team Champions off single-handedly, Shirai issued a solid message on Twitter, in which she wrote: “This is my house. This is my NXT”
This is my house。
This is my NXT。

Shirai attacking the tag team champs as an act of defending her ground makes sense. But is there more to it that just that? Given how Bayley and Banks heel nature, they will not sit quietly.
They will, at some point, try to get revenge on the NXT Women’s Champion. So, will this lead to a tag-team bout for the championship? If so, are we getting a reunion of Io Shirai and Kairi Sane in the coming weeks, given that Shirai obviously needs a partner?
The return of The Sky Pirates does make for an enticing prospect. Sane hasn’t been used all too much on Raw recently. And with Asuka busy with her Raw Women’s Championship, a reunion with Shirai could be on the cards.
As of now, one thing is clear, NXT is Io Shirai’s ground and she’ll not sit quiet if anyone messes around.
