Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio are former SmackDown Tag Team Champions, but is WWE planning to break up this tag team?
The Tag Team stable of Rey Mysterio and Dominik is currently on a break, but WWE might be looking to break them up after they return.
According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE might be done with the duo and will be looking to break them.
“There is at least talk of them not being put together going forward.”
In 2018, Rey Mysterio made a shocking comeback to the Royal Rumble. He created an iconic moment when he stood beside Randy Orton and John Cena to face Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura and Roman Reigns.
Mysterio signed a new contract with WWE and feuded with several tag teams while working with Dominik by the end of the year. They also won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships last year.
A split between The Mysterios was expected when they began teaming regularly. The talk of their splitting has been going on for several months. Andrew Zarian reported through a WWE source.
Mysterio has also openly discussed the possibility of Dominik competing under a mask during the Not About Wrestling Podcast.
“As a matter of fact, there was [a conversation about masking him]. The only issue was that he was getting so much promotion without the mask prior to him starting to wrestle. When I did my storyline with Samoa Joe with Brock, and we just felt maybe it might be a little too late to mask him now. We’ve talked about it. We would love to incorporate the mask somehow someway, so the legacy continues. Even if they know his face already. We can start a trend where Dominik is outside the ring, and Dominik Mysterio is inside the ring.”
Mysterio has also talked about how he would retie and let his son make his mark in the company. After the breakup, Dominik might go to NXT, where he might wear a mask to carry his father’s legacy.
