John Bradshaw Layfield and Ron Simmons were the APA during their WWE days
Former WWE Champion John Bradshaw Layfield shared a story about how his former tag partner, Ron Simmons, stopped a racial angle during their time in WWE.
While Layfield, JBL during his late run, was a singles champion on SmackDown, he formed the APA with Faarooq in the late 90s.
Faarooq, Simmons, and JBL were great as a tag team and won the tag titles thrice. JBL also worked as a commentator and has had his questionable moments in the past.
However, the former champion came out to suggest that Simmons moved to squash a story about the mixed-race pair:
“A writer suggested one time in @WWE that we would make a big deal out of Ron and I being one of first mix raced teams in a major promotion. Ron killed it immediately-he said this is about best friends, not about race. It just didn’t matter to us. It never should.”
JBL then tweeted the photo of the APA and the Dudley Brothers with a message of solidarity
Most of the wrestling world is united in the protests after the murder of George Floyd. They have supported the non-violent protests and many have even shared links to support affected families.
Jaxson Ryker, however, took another route into all this. The Forgotten Sons member decided to support President Donald Trump and was hit back.
Many wrestlers called out Ryker and admonished him on Twitter. Ryker might have been playing a character online, but this didn’t seem like the right time to do it.
The US has been hit hard by several protests across the country. Many other countries have also taken out marches in support of Floyd and the racial discrimination faced by people in the USA.
Many other sports stars have also come out in support of the protests, and WWE too shared a message of support recently.
