CM Punk trolls John Cena for his embarrassing ‘Taiwan’ incident by changing his Twitter bio
Former WWE and UFC star CM Punk is the definition of a class clown. He isn’t afraid to cross any lines, even if it concerns his former (and possibly future) employers.
And he was at it again this week after John Cena famously apologized to Chinese masses on Sina Weibo after referring to Taiwan as an independent country.
Cena’s apology, which was spoken in Mandarin, did not mention the word ‘Taiwan’ but awkwardly apologized countless times to his fans in China. It said:
“Hi China, I’m John Cena. I’m in the middle of Fast and Furious 9 promotions. I’m doing a lot of interviews. I made a mistake in one of my interviews. Everyone was asking me if I could use Chinese – [movie] staff gave me a lot of information, so there was a lot of interviews and information. I made one mistake. I have to say something very, very, very important now. I love and respect China and Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry about my mistake. I apologise, I apologise, I’m very sorry. You must understand that I really love, really respect China and the Chinese people. My apologies. See you.”
The Chinese populace still didn’t forgive Cena after the apology for not mentioning the word Taiwan in his apology. But CM Punk wasn’t afraid to use it in his Twitter bio.
CM Punk calls Taiwan a country as he trolls John Cena
Punk updated his Twitter bio to ‘Taiwan is a country’, and then followed it up with a tweet that said, ‘New bio!’.
The tweet garnered generally positive responses from his followers, with one fan even mocking the Fast and Furious 9 team for diluting their political beliefs in order to promote the movie.
“Taiwan isn’t a country if you have a movie to promote that needs to do well in China.”, the tweet read.
China practices a One-China policy which enlists Taiwan as a part of the Chinese mainland, while Taiwan claims independence and status as a separate country.
Cena is yet to comment on this and would probably choose to ignore it considering the controversy it can cause.
