John Cena could be scheduled for a sensational return to WWE in 2021
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Ringside News), John Cena could be scheduled to make a sensational return to WWE in 2021.
“Regarding talk of John Cena being on the first WWE show back with fans on 7/16, I was told that this is still being discussed.”
Cena’s last match in WWE came at WrestleMania 36 where he lost to ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt in a Firefly Funhouse match. He has not been in action since but has been keeping himself busy in Hollywood.
And on top of that, PWInsider (h/t Bleacher Report) noted that Cena’s Peacemakers series on HBO finishes shooting on July 6th.
That is 10 days before the 16th July SmackDown, which would be the first live tour that WWE would be doing since announcing a return to the road for the company.
So far, it seems like a return is possible for him. His last match did not come very long ago and the 16-time world champion, talking to Don of Geek, even confirmed intentions of making a return to WWE soon.
“I really, really want to get back to WWE,” he said. “I really want audiences to get back to WWE. Heck I’m with everybody I think around the world saying I just want the world to get back to normal, but these are interesting times and I have a lot of interesting opportunities at my feet…”
John Cena always had love for his fans even if a major section of pro wrestling fans disliked him because WWE tended to shove him down their throats.
But he is one of the greatest pro wrestlers to exist and was the face of the company for nearly a decade. It is clear that the promotion would want to have him on board to boos revenue.
The 16th July episode of SmackDown and 2021 SummerSlam will form a part of the 25-city tour that WWE will do in the summer and it remains to be seen if we will get to see Cena once again at a major PPV.
