John Cena return date set after Money in the Bank PPV on Sunday
Former WWE Champion John Cena is rumored to have a return date post the completion of the Money in the Bank PPV this Sunday.
Cena has been expected to appear at WWE SummerSlam on Saturday, August 21 in Las Vegas, challenging WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. He confirmed his return to WWE on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
In an update, Fightful Select has said that a possible date for his return is the July 23 SmackDown episode. Even there is no confirmation, Cena will make a return after almost a year within the next two months to feud with Reigns.
Reigns, meanwhile, is set to defend his Universal Championship at Money in the Bank against Edge. The two have cooked up a heavy storyline since WrestleMania 37 and will now face each other in singles action.
Edge is on a limited appearances contract and has already appeared in PPVs like Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 37. ‘The Tribal Chief’ Reigns is in the best form of his life as a heel and has not been defeated since August 2020.
It will be a herculean task for Cena who will meet him in a No Mercy 2017 rematch.
Despite the lack of appearance from Cena and Edge in the last few years, the duo are set to return at SummerSlam in August. Cena and Edge, themselves have been part of a legendary feud in the past. This time around, things will be very different.
After Edge returned, he was granted another title opportunity to Rollins’ annoyance. The two also had a war of words on SmackDown, which could mean a first time ever matchup at the ‘biggest event of the summer.’
Rollins and Edge have a history since 2014, when Edge appeared post his retirement and Rollins was a part of The Authority. The first-time ever match is set to make SummerSlam one of the biggest events of the year. With John Cena in the fray, it could be a monumental day in the making.
