WWE Rumors: WWE planning huge John Cena return match for SummerSlam

John Cena reportedly ‘locked in’ as main event with Roman Reigns for SummerSlam 2021

WWE has decided on the main event of SummerSlam this year in August at the Allegiant Stadium, with John Cena making his long awaited return.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, (h/t Forbes)

“There’s still no word yet as to when Cena will exactly return to WWE. However…Cena vs. Reigns is ‘locked in’ as the main event for the show.”

Meltzer continued saying:

“The filming schedule for Cena’s new movie Argylle begins in Europe in August. It’s unclear how that affects his planned SummerSlam match with Reigns and “it’s possible he could start after or end prior to the date or even get a few days off.” Other than that, his commitments appear to be clear if he is to return to WWE TV to build up the match.”

Cena has not made an appearance since his loss to Bray Wyatt at last year’s WrestleMania. It is still uncertain as to when he will return during the year. The 16-time World Champion has seen Reigns take over in WWE after moving to Hollywood and will love a return against the ‘Head of the Table.’

What does John Cena have in store when he faces Roman Reigns?

Since Cena left WWE on a longer hiatus, we have seen the greatest transformation of Roman Reigns. Reigns has become one of the most dominant champions in WWE history. With Paul Heyman by his side, he has created a heel gimmick that can do no wrong at the moment.

Cena raised Reigns’ hand after his loss at No Mercy

With Jimmy Uso as his right hand, he has single-handedly dominated the SmackDown roster since his title win in August 2020. Cena will face a completely different Reigns from the one at No Mercy in 2017.

Even though Reigns fought hard to manage a win, this time it will all be about the dominance against the future WWE Hall of Famer John Cena.
