Kairi Sane bid goodbye to WWE after Monday’s episode of Raw as she was leaving the promotion
Kairi Sane shared heartfelt messages to WWE and the WWE Universe after leaving the pro-wrestling company.
Sane had been with the promotion for three years, having joined up in 2017. But she called curtains on her time with the promotion, following this week’s Raw.
Sane was written off by WWE, after she was viciously attacked by SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley backstage during Asuka’s title fight against Sasha Banks.
The Empress of Tomorrow left the fight and ran backstage to help her friend, which ended up costing her the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. Later on in the show, Asuka was seen coming out of the doctor’s room, where Sane was being treated, screaming in agony.
After Monday’s episode of Raw, Sane confirmed her departure with a message for the promotion, thanking her fellow wrestlers and everyone involved behind the scenes to have helped her through her journey.
Sane also expressed her gratitude to the fans for their constant support.
She won the Inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017, beating the likes of Tessa Blanchard, Bianca Belair, Dakota Kai, Toni Storm and Shayna Baszler, which earned her a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.
She had to wait for her first title reign though, which came in 2018, when she defeated Baszler for the top belt on the Black and Gold brand. Sane held the championship for 71 days before dropping it to Baszler again at WWE: Evolution PPV.
Sane then enjoyed a solid run in a tag-team with best friend Io Shirai as ‘The Sky Pirates’.
In 2019, Sane was pushed to the main roster, as she teamed up with Asuka, forming ‘The Kabuki Warriors’. The duo enjoyed a good run with the Women’s tag team belts, but Sane was never really used as well as had been on NXT.
Sane leaves WWE in order to be with her husband back in Japan. She got married to her long-time boyfriend back in February earlier this year.
It remains to be seen if the 31-year-old does get back to pro-wrestling back in her homeland. Although, it has also been speculated that she will still be affiliated with WWE in an ambassadorial role.
We wish Kairi all the best for her future endeavours!
