WWE has given Keith Lee a new nickname “Bearcat”
Keith Lee returned to WWE on this week’s Monday Night Raw with a new nickname Bearcat. Lee faced Akira Tozawa and earned a quick victory over him. He did not come back with only a new nickname, his look, in ring attitude and theme was also changed by the WWE.
Lee later appeared for a post show interview with Kevin Patrick. Lee was asked if there’s something to be said for his new attitude and he responded with a solid “No”.
It is reported that Lee’s nickname Bearcat is a reference to Bearcat Wright who was a popular Afro American wrestlers in the 50s and 60s. Wright was also inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame’s Legacy Wing in 2017.
However, the name Bearcat can also be a reference to Bearcat Brown. Who was also an Afro American wrestler who worked in the Memphis area between the 60s and 70s.
Lee tested positive for Covid in the beginning of the year. His girlfriend Mia Yim was by his side the whole time and she also caught the virus from his later.
Lee faced severe after affects of the virus as he suffered from an inflammation of the heart. He was advised to only walk and stop exercising for a while as it could be fatal.
