Kurt Angle recalls his backstage fight with Eddie Guerrero during their days together on WWE
Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle were very good friends during their WWE days. But Angle recently recalled a backstage incident that was not-so-friendly.
Or so it sounded at first. The former WWE champion was on The Hannibal TV on YouTube earlier this week. And he recalled his backstage spat with the ‘Latino Heat’.
He recalled how the whole thing started when he and his team had to create some in-ring heat against Guerrero.
The latter came up to Angle afterwards and accused him of also laying in on the beating that was handed to the Texas-born wrestler.
One thing led to another, and both of them were fighting backstage. It got to the point where they needed intervening from the Big Show.
And Angle is thankful for that because he say he ‘loved’ Eddie and didn’t want to fight him. But it was all in good spirits.
He did, however, tried to choke out Guerrero and recalled how the late superstar called himself a ‘dumbass’ for trying to wrestle an Olympic gold medallist.
“He [Guerrero] pushed me, and I said ‘don’t push me again’. He pushed me, I pushed him back, and he tried to double leg me. It wasn’t that hard to fight him off, being an amateur wrestler. It was pretty easy and I put him in a chokehold, started choking him out. And then Big Show broke it out. Thank God, because I loved Eddie, I didn’t want to fight Eddie… 10 minutes later, JBL, goes to Eddie and asks ‘why would you double leg an Olympic wrestler’, and he said ‘because I’m a dumbass!’.”
Guerrero was one of the most enthralling superstars in WWE during the early 00s. And he even enjoyed some screen-time with Angle.
He once asked himself to be inserted in a title fight between Chyna and Angle in 2000 to protect Chyna, but instead pinned his ‘mamacita’ mistakenly to become the intercontinental champion.
