Kurt Angle brought up Chris Benoit after the Cesaro vs Daniel Bryan match on SmackDown

This week’s WWE SmackDown saw a few great matches with Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro picking up huge wins.

Nakamura even brought up his old WWE entrance theme and beat Uso clean. Cesaro, for his part, took on former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan.

The Swiss star defeated Bryan clean too and this was one of his biggest singles wins in recent years. Nakamura and Cesaro have featured as a tag team in recent months, but this could have been a sign that they were going to split up.

The Cesaro vs Bryan clash was something of a masterpiece that we don’t get to see these days in wrestling. There were many great submission moves and hard hits, and this was easily the best match of the week in WWE.

The match also caught attention of wrestling legend Kurt Angle and he compared it to his technical slugfests with another former WWE star.

Cesaro vs Bryan is akin to Angle vs Benoit

Chris Benoit’s legacy in WWE might have been tainted after the double-murder suicide that took place a few years back.

However, the former WWE star is still considered to be one of the greatest of all-time. Benoit’s performances live long in the memories of most WWE fans and Angle claimed that Cesaro vs Bryan reminded him of that:

“I watched an incredible match on #SmackDown last night between @WWECesaro and @WWEDanielBryan – A technical masterpiece with great submission trade offs and false finishes. Reminded me of my matches with Benoit. Great job guys. #itstrue”

This is high praise coming in from the Olympic gold winner. Angle vs Benoit pitted two of the best technical wrestlers ever, and the pair always put on a great show for the fans.

Cesaro is one of the most underrated stars in WWE, something that even his peers believe. He is set to feature in the upcoming Royal Rumble, and it will be interesting to see how he does in that.
