We have lost one of the most iconic referees in professional wrestling, Dave Hebner, at the age of 73. Pro wrestling fans are shattered upon hearing the tragic news.
Dave Hebner worked as a referee in WWE for over three decades. His death was reported on Friday by his son Brian Hebner.
Dave Hebner is the twin brother of another legendary referee Earl Hebner. Dave’s family reported that he was suffering from multiple diseases and one among them was Parkinson’s Disease. The family of the veteran referee also noted that his health had been deteriorating over the past few years.
Dave Hebner was involved in one of the most famous storylines in WWE back in 1988. It was The Main Event on NBC where we saw a WrestleMania III rematch between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. The match was for Hogan’s WWF World Championship. Towards the closing stages of the match, Dave Hebner counted to three very swiftly as Andre stole the victory. Hogan was in shock. However, his shock intensified when another referee made his way to the ring, and he was Dave’s doppelganger.
Eventually, it was revealed that the imposter referee was none other than Earl Hebner. Dave and Earl both worked as referees in WWE and later in TNA. A knee replacement forced Dave to retire as a referee and he began to work as a road agent.
Fans have been sending their condolences to Dave Hebner’s family. In this section, we will take a look at some of the tweets from the fans.
We would like to share our deepest condolences in this tough moment for the Hebner family. Thank you for your contribution to pro wrestling Mr. Hebner.
