Lita talks about her career in ECW before joining WWF
Former WWE wrestler Lita spoke about her time in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) before she moved to WWF and cemented her name on the women’s roster.
Lita (real name Amy Dumas) was approached by legendary manager Paul Heyman to sign for ECW. She made her debut with the name ‘Miss Congeniality.’ She was the on-screen partner of Danny Doring. Lita made her debut as Angelica during a pay-per-view Heat Wave, with a storyline of a proposal.
“Up until I broke my neck in 2002, I had what I refer to as ‘kid power.’ I just lived my life and there were pianos falling behind and it was like on the verge of a catastrophe. I knew that there was lot of talent there and I could learn. They were No. 3 in the big 3 promotions. I wanted to learn, but I had my eyes set on going to WWE.” (h/t Starrcast )
Lita, earlier wrestled for Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW) and was a long-time fan of Rey Mysterio Jr. She further honed her craft at The Funkin Conservatory introduced by veteran wrestler, Dory Funk Jr.
Dumas was watched by WWF and they were impressed by her performances in ECW. They decided to sign her on a developmental deal, after which she began her dream move.
Lita turned heel after betraying Kane to help Edge win the finals of the RAW Gold Rush Tournament. Her storyline with Kane ended, after her change in character and having an in-ring wedding with the Rated R Superstar.
Lita, then went on to have a storyline with Matt Hardy and Edge. Moreover, the two men were involved in a fierce rivalry, where Hardy even got fired for revealing details on his personal blog. The rivalry got sour after Hardy returned to WWE, finally ending in a ladder match.
Edge shockingly announced that he would be having “hot, unbridled sex” with Lita inside the ring. This segment rates highest ever in WWE Raw history. However, the scene was interrupted when John Cena made an appearance to stop the act. The pair had a battle for the WWE Championship with John Cena, where Edge cashed in the first ever Money in the Bank.
Lita won four Women’s Championships in her time at WWE. She is an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014, after a glorious career as a manager and wrestler.
