The Biggest Party of the Summer – WWE SummerSlam is incoming and the WWE Universe has a lot to look forward to as the match card is quite promising.
After a successful Money in the Bank pay-per-view, fans have great expectations from SummerSlam. The event is considered the biggest WWE PPV after WrestleMania. We have a couple of WrestleMania 38 rematches stacked up. 8 matches have been announced till now. We will discuss all of them in this article and predict the results.
Pat McAfee versus Happy Corbin
Pat McAfee was scheduled to have one match at WrestleMania 38 but he ended up having one more against Vince McMahon. The former American football player won against Theory but lost to Mr. McMahon. He was quite impressive in the ring and he will return to the squared circle once again at SummerSlam.
Happy Corbin had a long-standing feud with Madcap Moss. After Corbin turned on Moss, the two went back and forth until the 2022 Andre the Giant Memorial trophy winner defeated the Lone Wolf on the June 17 episode of SmackDown. After the loss, Corbin blamed McAfee for always speaking unfairly about him. McAfee went on to challenge Corbin to a match at SummerSlam. Corbin took his time answering the challenge. After the Money in the Bank PPV went off the air, Corbin attacked McAfee and accepted the challenge.
If WWE wants to bring Corbin’s career back on track, it’s important for them to give him this win. However, WWE might not want to disappoint the WWE Universe by having McAfee lose.
Prediction: Pat McAfee to get the win.
Logan Paul versus The Miz
The Miz took the social media star under his wing earlier in the year. Both men had great things to say about each other as they were set to take on Rey and Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 38 in a tag team match. Paul learned the ropes from the A-lister and produced an impressive performance at The Grandest Stage of Them All. The heels secured the victory but after the match ended, The Miz showed Paul who’s the veteran. The former WWE Champion delivered a Skull Crushing Finale to the youngster.
Paul signed a contract with WWE earlier in the month and he knew who he was coming for. The 27-year-old challenged The Miz to a one-on-one match at SummerSlam but like Corbin, the experienced campaigner ignored it. This was until Paul appeared on the July 18 episode of RAW to confront Miz face-to-face. Paul antagonized Miz by speaking about his now-famous “tiny balls” and left him with no choice but to accept the challenge. Ciampa and Miz attacked Paul but he managed to retreat in time. Ciampa has allied with The Miz and we can expect him to be heavily involved in the match at SummerSlam.
Prediction: The Miz to win with a distraction from Ciampa.
Bianca Belair (c) versus Becky Lynch – RAW Women’s Championship match
Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch stole the show at WrestleMania 38. They showed great chemistry and produced a scintillating match at The Show of Shows. The EST came out victorious and won her second world title in WWE. Now she will enter her match at SummerSlam as the champion and look to create a cherishable memory at the event where she lost last year in 26 seconds against Big Time Becks.
Lynch went on a downward spiral since losing the RAW Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 38. She lost a few matches against Asuka before competing for the WWE 24/7 Championship at one point. The Man failed to win the Money in the Bank contract and things were looking gloomy for the Irish star. However, WWE decided to put arguably their biggest female superstar in the title picture once again. Fans will get to see another epic battle in the Belair-Lynch saga.
Prediction: Bianca Belair to retain.
Theory versus Bobby Lashley (c) – United States Championship match
The United States Championship was defended at a PPV after a long time as Theory tried to defend the gold against Bobby Lashley. However, the former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley picked up the win to become a three-time Unites States Champion. Theory had no time to contemplate his loss as he was handpicked and inserted into the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match on the same night.
The youngest United States Champion in WWE managed to win the match to become Mr. Money in the Bank. The majority of the fans did not like WWE’s decision to make him Mr. Money in the Bank. Many even said that his win had spoilt an otherwise memorable PPV. However, Mr. McMahon’s protege couldn’t care less. He has done well to continue with two storylines at the same time. He not only challenged Lashley to a rematch at SummerSlam but has also hinted that he could cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase at the PPV.
Prediction: Bobby Lashley to retain.
Liv Morgan (c) versus Ronda Rousey – SmackDown Women’s Championship match
Liv Morgan had a memorable Money in the Bank PPV. She won the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match and went on to cash it in on Ronda Rousey who had just finished a grueling match with Natalya. Morgan rolled up Rousey to get the win and begin her first title reign in WWE.
Morgan received praise from the former MMA star but once the bell rings at SummerSlam the camaraderie will go out of the window. This will be Morgan’s first title defense. It is expected that the former Riott Squad member will pick up the victory and retain her title. Expect an intense match where Morgan will show tremendous resilience to overcome the odds and defeat Rousey fair and square.
Prediction: Liv Morgan to retain
The Usos (c) versus The Street Profits – Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match – Jeff Jarrett will be the special guest referee
The Usos and The Street Profits have delivered some epic matches. Both teams have great chemistry and it shows in the ring. The Street Profits had a great chance to win the Tag Titles at Money in the Bank but they fell victim to a dubious three count from the referee. Ford had his shoulder up but the referee still counted to three. On the 15 July episode of SmackDown, Adam Pearce announced that WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett will be the special guest referee for the rematch at SummerSlam.
WWE has teased a breakup angle between Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins. The Usos could pick up the win after pinning Ford. Dawkins could turn on his tag partner after the match. This would mean that Dawkins turns heel while Ford stays babyface and the two continue to brawl over the next few weeks.
Prediction: The Usos to retain.
Seth Rollins versus Riddle
Seth Rollins went on a losing streak against Cody Rhodes. However, the Visionary has resurrected himself, much like his wife Lynch, and now finds himself in an interesting mid-card feud with Riddle.
The Ultimate Bro was the fans’ pick to become Mr. Money in the Bank but Theory ended up winning the briefcase. Riddle is the only one who had a match for the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns after the Tribal Chief unified the titles at WrestleMania 38. However, the former United States Champion fell short by a whisker. This match between Riddle and Rollins has the potential to steal the show. Let’s hope we get to see a riveting affair at SummerSlam.
Prediction: Riddle to pick up the win.
Roman Reigns (c) versus Brock Lesnar – WWE Universal Championship match – Last Man Standing match
As per various reports, WWE had planned to have Randy Orton face Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. However, after the Viper went out of action, the Stamford-based company decided to fall back to their tried and tested Roman Reigns versus Brock Lesnar match.
Many from the WWE Universe feel that this rivalry has gone past its expiry date. These two have been fighting each other for years. When this match was announced, some fans were not too thrilled. WWE has added a stipulation to make it more interesting. The commentators have also mentioned time and again that this is the last match in the long-storied rivalry. Let’s hope we get a better match than the disappointing one we saw at WrestleMania this year.
Prediction: Roman Reigns to retain.
The Judgement Day versus Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio – No Disqualification match
This match was confirmed on the July 25 episode of RAW. The Mysterios and The Judgement Day have been going back and forth over the last few weeks. Damian Priest and Finn Balor wanted Dominik to join The Judgement Day. That storyline went on for a few weeks until Dom finally decided to join the villainous faction after they threatened to harm his father. However, Balor and Priest denied Dom entry into the group.
On the July 25 episode of WWE’s red brand, Rey celebrated his 20-year anniversary in WWE. He teamed up with his son to pick up a win against Balor and Priest. However, during a backstage segment after the match, Rhea Ripley appeared and orchestrated an assault on the veteran Rey, with the help of her stablemates. Later on in the night, the match was made official.
The Judgement Day should win this match. We could see them continue to dish out punishment to Dom and Rey after the match, only for the Rated-R Superstar Edge to make his impending return and clear the ring. Edge was taken out by the heel trio several weeks ago. We have been seeing vignettes of what seems to be the WWE Hall of Famer and a return at SummerSlam could be one of the standout moments of the show.
Prediction – The Judgement Day to win.
