AEW wrestler Malakai Black owes a lot to ‘The Special Counsel to The Tribal Chief’ Paul Heyman
Malakai Black returned to the WWE in April, 2021 following a six-month absence. The WWE aired several vignettes and hyped up his new gimmick ‘The Dark Father’.
Just when everyone considered that he would last long in the WWE, he was released from the promotion in the most unexpected of times, as a part of the promotion’s budget cuts, on the 2nd of June.
A month later, Black found a new shelter in AEW. He made his debut on the 7th of July in a gimmick that would put The Dark Father to shame. He attacked both Arn Anderson and Cody Rhodes that night.
On a recent episode of Talk is Jericho podcast, Black revealed how helpful Paul Heyman was to him during his time in the WWE.
Black revealed that Paul and he got along from day one. He went on to reveal how Heyman had a lot of plans in helping out young wrestlers, and how one such idea failed to come to fruition (involving Buddy Murphy)
“Since day one, me and Paul meshed. I love that man. He’s always been really good to me. He’s been blunt with me and I appreciate people being blunt with me, don’t dance around the subject, just tell me how it is, especially in this business. Paul had big ideas, not just with me, but with a lot of younger people like Buddy Murphy. He once told me that he had one night of control, that was the first night. After that, everything became a fight. Maybe ‘fight’ is not the right word, but a debate. I can understand, but it makes you wonder. I let it go because we were fighting tooth and nail to get me out of the room and to progress.”
Big E opens up on Malakai Black’s release from the WWE
In a recent interview with GiveMeSport, WWE Superstar Big E opened up on the release of Malakai Black from the WWE, just when his new gimmick was taking shape.
Big E also acknowledged the immense talent Black brought to the table, while also wishing him the best for the future.
“Yeah man, I didn’t know the plan, I didn’t know where we were going. The Aleister thing was an opportunity to do something different, a nice break from that, and it just ended up fizzling. Like I said, he’s very very good at what he does, and I wish him well.” [via Rajah.com]
