Drew McIntyre beat Kofi Kingston in a gruelling encounter to become the #1 contender for the WWE Championship on Monday Night RAW
The high-intensity match saw Kingston bringing the fight to McIntyre, but the Scotsman was able to hit the Claymore for the win. Following his loss, Kingston shook McIntyre’s hand in a gesture to show respect.
“Congrats @DMcIntyreWWE. You earned it. Respect.”
-Kofi Kingston on TwitterChampion Bobby Lashley and MVP were barred from ringside or would face a 90-day suspension without pay.
The pair went back and forth after which Kingston went for an SOS, but McIntyre dodged it and then reversed the move using his arms before giving him a Future Shock DDT for a near fall. Kingston delivered a superkick a little while after it. McIntyre caught him on the ropes and moved the fight back into the ring.
The Ghanian set up with a Trouble in Paradise kick and attempted a pin fall but McIntyre reached up and grabbed the bottom rope to break it. He hit him with a kick from the apron and took McIntyre out of the ring. Both men then returned to the ring. Finally, Kingston went up top and jumped into a Claymore Kick. McIntyre covered Kingston and got the victory.
Drew McIntyre’s win over Kofi Kingston on Raw, means he will challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at Hell in a Cell on June 20.
He will have perhaps his final chance to win the WWE Championship back from Lashley after suffering two consecutive losses at WrestleMania 37 and WrestleMania Backlash.
