Mick Foley’s 3 legendary characters:

Cactus Jack

This character of Foley is touted by many as the best among the three. Mick Foley imbibed some freakish elements into the character and along with his trademark “Bang Bang!” catchphrase, caught the attention of the fans in a jiffy. Cactus Jack had some of the most physical and blood-wrenched matches in the history of the business. He would wield barbed-wire bats at almost every other instance. Jack would go to every extent to defeat his opposition.

One such instance was when a botched maneuver versus Vader resulted in his right ear being torn off. This wasn’t enough for the risk-taker as he would continue putting his body on the line. Mick Foley had a great time in Japan when he won the ‘King of The Death Match’ in 1995. He survived barbed-wire impalements and explosive detonations in the process of winning the aforementioned match.

Mankind

This terrifying and eerie, no holds barred character, debuted as a deranged freak, who dwelled in a boiler room.

He was later made into a character which was more comedic, via which the creative team hit a bullseye. During this time, he pulled out the famous Mr. Socko. Mankind was a rage and he had a lot of success in the tag team department. He teamed up with The Rock to form The Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection. The tag team was an instant hit and provided many wonderful segments.

The Undertaker versus Mankind Hell in a Cell match in 1998 has to be mentioned where both the wrestlers fought inside and even on top of the ‘demonic’ structure. ‘The Phenom’ choke slammed Mankind through the roof of the Cell. There was a steel chair on the panel that Foley was slammed through. Once the panel collapsed, Foley fell into the ring and the chair fell on his head knocking him unconscious.

The Undertaker, once in an interview, said that after he had executed the choke slam, and Foley was left unconscious, he thought Foley was legitimately dead. This was totally off the script but it’s an iconic moment in wrestling which could have gone fatal on another day.

Dude Love

Dude Love was created by Mick himself and was his first own character creation. He used it in his own home videos.

Dude debuted around 1997 and won the tag team championships with Stone Cold Steve Austin. This character didn’t last long in its first stint and wasn’t received well by the fans who were accustomed to seeing the deranged and vicious Mankind.

Dude Love gimmick was more about Foley living a childhood dream and it wasn’t given enough screen time. The character came back in 1998 for a second run and put up a better performance but, once again, the lack of screen time didn’t help the character’s cause.

Mick Foley

The Hall of Famer wrestled as himself, after he retired from a full-time professional wrestling career. He would imbibe a few traits from all of his characters, in his original persona, during this time. He had a thrilling feud with Randy Orton as he put the promising, young Orton over. This character was closest to Cactus Jack though.

Overall, Mick Foley would go down as one of the most passionate wrestlers in the wrestling landscape. He gave his all for the company and the fans and would go all the way to entertain the audience.
