Roman Reigns claimed that CM Punk wasn’t over John Cena or as big as The Rock during his time in WWE

CM Punk’s return to wrestling has many people talking and expecting big things from the former WWE Champion.

Punk left WWE in acrimonious circumstances as he was possibly the best in the world. He also claimed he would never return to wrestling and was working on other projects, even trying his hand out in MMA.

However, Tony Khan’s AEW seems to be the next home for Punk. There have been many teases and rumours regarding this blockbuster move, but not everyone holds Punk in that high a regard.

Current WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, was speaking to Ariel Helwani and claimed that all the adulation for Punk from within the industry wasn’t that great.

Reigns, who is playing a heel Tribal Chief in WWE, went on to say that Punk never reached the heights of John Cena or The Rock during his time with the company.

Mick Foley rejects Roman Reigns’ comments

However, Punk got a lot of support from wrestling legend Mick Foley. Foley too worked in WWE and knows the industry inside out.

The Hardcore Legend refuted Reigns’ claims of Punk not being over and even brought out an instance where Punk got the whole world talking. Foley also said that Punk would be “da** good and da** over” when The Best in the World would return.

“CM PUNK WAS DAMN GOOD, AND DAMN OVER.

“With one interview he changed the course of the wrestling business. He had great matches with a wide variety of opponents on a nightly basis.

“When/if he returns to wrestling, he will once again be damn good and damn over. @CMPunk”

Punk returning to action will be huge news for the wrestling world. He cut short his career when he was in his prime and it will be interesting to see how he does in the ring.

AEW has picked up a lot of former WWE talent but Punk could be the biggest one yet.
