WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley speaks on famous match vs The Undertaker at Hell in a Cell
Mick Foley is one of the household names in WWE and ever remembered for his characters like Mankind who faced The Undertaker at Hell in a Cell 1996. The match between the two is among the biggest moments in WWE history.
Foley, now has spoken about how The Phenom and him discussed the match that would etch their names in history. Talking on the Broken Skulls Podcast with Steve Austin, he says: (h/t Wrestling Inc)
“We start reminiscing and Taker looks at me — he still called me ‘Jack’ at the time, one of the last holdouts from my Cactus Jack days — ‘Jack, what you and I did that night will outlive us both. People will be talking about that match long after we’re gone. It was almost like I feel this weight being lifted off my shoulders. Then I realized, wait a second, I wanted to make people feel the way I felt the night that I saw Snuka come off of that cage — and I’ve done it. I’m too stubborn to realize it.”
“You know how many great workers there have been in our business who aren’t remembered for anything? It’s like, not only do I have this match, but the title change with The Rock. I got a few things and it no longer bothers me that I’m asked about that match every single day.”
Mick Foley would sustain bad injuries after The Undertaker threw him off the top of the cell, straight to the ground.
WWE Referee Tim White suffered career-ending injuries at Hell in a Cell
Despite the brutal match between wrestlers inside Hell in a Cell, it was Tim White who came out of the match with a bad injury. White, suffered a shoulder injury when Chris Jericho and Triple H faced off inside the demonic structure in 2000. He was also the referee in the 1996 match of Mankind and The Undertaker.
White returned to the ring two years later at WrestleMania 18. However, he aggravated his injury and was forced to retire from the wrestling business. White’s injury had worse consequences, despite Foley being thrown from the top of the cell twice.
