WWE continued its domination over the upstart AEW in terms of the online popularity of their wrestlers and the company in general; several WWE Wrestlers toppled those of AEW to be in the spot of most searched professional wrestlers of 2022 – Cody Rhodes in top 4
According to a new study from Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, WWE has garnered a whopping 80.1 percent share of google web searches among all wrestling promotions till now in 2022. AEW came a distant second with only a 12.4 percent share and New Japan Pro Wrestling garnered close to 5 percent of all searches related to wrestling in this calendar year.
IMPACT wrestling managed a 1.5 percent share while no other promotion managed to hit the 2 percent mark. ROH, NWA, and MLW got a combined total of 1 percent.
The report from Thurston also showed promising signs for Tony Khan’s company as it witnessed a steady increase in online popularity over the course of the last 12 months.
Roman Reigns was the Universal Champion heading into WrestleMania 38. At The Grandest Stage of Them All, the Tribal Chief beat Brock Lesnar to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
With such a remarkable achievement under his belt at the beginning of April, it comes as no surprise that the Head of the Table was the most searched wrestling personality for the previous month.
The former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar came second while Stone Cold Steve Austin, who returned to have a match after 19 years was third on the list. Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE at WrestleMania and he made it to the fourth spot. The recently retired WWE legend Triple H was fifth on the list.
Ronda Rousey was the most searched female wrestler on the list and he came sixth overall. Paul Wight AKA Big Show was the most searched AEW wrestler.
