Mustafa Ali took on Matt Riddle on WWE Raw but isn’t expected to feature at WrestleMania 37
Former Retribution leader Mustafa Ali had quite a 2020 but he isn’t expected to feature at WWE WrestleMania 37.
Things looked up for the high-flyer when he was revealed as the leader of Retribution. Ali also battled for the US title but lost against Matt Riddle at Fastlane.
That was the end of Retribution as Ali was attacked by the members. He has now returned to singles wrestling and was in action on this week’s Raw.
He was up against Riddle and for a while, it seemed that Ali would get a big win. Sheamus was on the mind of Riddle as The Original Bro defended his US title against the Celtic Warrior at Mania.
However, Ali was defeated by the champion and that led to an emotional outburst. Ali brought up how he would not feature for the second year in a row at WrestleMania and laid the blame all on himself:
“Hundreds of excuses. Hundreds of hurdles and lies. But at the end of the day, it’s on me. No one and nothing else to blame but me. Another year, another WrestleMania that I’m not going to compete in. Nothing has ever been given to me. This is no different. Next year, you’re mine.”
Ali is one of the most talented stars in the ring but WWE can’t seem to get him going. He was decent on 205 Live but the move up to the main roster has been more miss than hit.
WWE teased him as the hacker on SmackDown and this story was dropped just before WrestleMania 36.
Ali is going through Deja Vu again as Retribution was broken up also just before WrestleMania. It would make sense for Ali to continue as a singles star, and hopefully, WWE get things right for him.
The high-flyer is keen on starring in WrestleMania 38, and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.
