Mustafa Ali made his name on 205 Live but had to fight hard to get a WWE contract
Retribution leader Mustafa Ali hasn’t had an easy journey into WWE but he is making the best of the cards dealt.
The former 205 Live star suffered a major injury which cut short his chances of appearing in an Elimination Chamber match. Kofi Kingston’s career changed as he replaced Ali but the former cop is now the leader of Retribution and was speaking to Corey Graves in his After the Bell podcast.
Ali touched on several topics during the podcast and one was how he got a contract in WWE. The Retribution leader shared that others were getting the deals and that left him a little frustrated:
“One by one, everyone starts getting contracts, like Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, Lince Dorado and I am just not getting a contract.
“And I remember, It was, I want to say the fourth or fifth time I was at NXT, and I very sheepishly went up to Hunter [Triple H] and I was like, ‘Hey man, what’s the deal? You know when you know. You have seen me life four or five times. Am I, like, not good enough to be here?’”
H then told Ali that there were only “so many bones” which could be given out to a few “dogs”, implying that WWE didn’t have too many contracts to hand out.
However, Ali added that a week later he got a call that WWE wanted to sign him.
While H told Ali to keep working for his chance in WWE, the Retribution leader believe him pestering the legend helped him get the job.
However, Ali was quick to tell others not to follow this route and keep asking H for a job. Ali was one of the top performers on SmackDown before his injury and his current role certainly is interesting.
He has become one of the top heels in the promotion and it will be interesting to see what else Retribution do.
They are in a battle with the Hurt Business but last week, they also attacked Tucker on Raw.
