MVP confirms retirement was on the cards before incredible Hurt Business run

Published by

MVP has reinvented himself after his role in The Hurt Business alongside Bobby Lashley

Montel Vontavious Porter, AKA MVP, has been a regular name on the WWE main roster for a big part of the last one and a half decades.

He has a few titles to his name too. MVP won the United States championship twice along with a tag team title with Matt Hardy.

But many would argue that his best work has come in the past year as a member of The Hurt Business. MVP aligned himself with Bobby Lashley and managed him at Backlash last year.

From there on, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander were added to expand the stable further. Their collective peak came when Bobby Lashley beat The Miz to become the WWE champion.

Recently, MVP had a more docile role in TBH after an injury put him on crutches. He was seen as the wise leader of the group, akin to a Godfather, a role best displayed when THB broke in front of his eyes on RAW a few weeks back.

MVP says retirement was on his mind before The Hurt Business run

And speaking with Corey Graves on the WWE After The Bell podcast, MVP stated that he was thoughts about retirement before this allegiance came along.

“Things have changed, in a short span of time. I was gonna retire and here I am standing next to one of my best friends and business partners at WrestleMania, celebrating little piece of history.”

He then explained how Lashley and him aligned so seamlessly on the show, an idea which he says Bobby had nurtured for a while before it actually came into being. And that is, mind you, a move that has benefitted both their careers to a massive extent.

“Bobby and I have a very natural chemistry. We’re friends in real life. And, you know, we play friends and business partners on television… Contrary to popular belief, Bobby, had an idea for some time to do something like a Hurt Business.”

Both of them (especially MVP) have now gotten so big that the promotion cut off Benjamin and Alexander to make sure the ‘spotlight’ stays on these two, a move that was not well received by the fans.

But it has, indeed, made sure that the duo now has a few pairs of extra eyeballs on them when they’re in the ring together.
