The former two-time WWE United States Champion hasn’t been seen wrestling in matches for a long time now.
MVP was the guest on this week’s Wrestling with Freddie podcast from iHeart Media’s My Cultra Network. Freddie Prinze Jr. welcomed the Hurt Business member on the show.
MVP hasn’t been wrestling since he endured a torn meniscus. He had to go under the knife in September last year. The 48-year-old gave an update about his injury status and a comeback to in-ring competition.
“I’m doing well, man,” MVP stated. “I’m actually in my hotel room in Orlando right now, going through my physical – I guess, physical assessment, to get cleared to get back in the ring because, you know, I had that knee injury for a while. It’s all healed up, so now it’s just a matter of me jumping through their hoops to make sure that I’m physically capable of performing in the ring. So, I’m feeling good, man.“
“The knee injury, the torn meniscus is completely healed, and now it’s just a matter of rebuilding the strength in the leg from my atrophy muscle. My teardrop is gone, non-existent. I’m building that back up, and my cardio, my cardio is much better than I thought it would be because I actually hired a trainer and I’ve been working on it. So, I’m further along than I thought I would be.”
MVP’s career in WWE till now
MVP’s best feud was with The Big Red Monster – Kane. Kane and MVP’a feud lasted for a couple of months. He won in a street fight and a steel cage match against the veteran Kane.
MVP teamed up with Mr. Kennedy to beat Kane and his on-screen brother, The Undertaker. Kane will finally get his revenge when he beat MVP in a thrilling Inferno match at Armageddon.
He has beaten the likes of Chris Benoit and Ric Flair. MVP became a double champion when he held the United States title and tag team titles with Matt Hardy. His first US championship reign lasted an impressive 343 days.
MVP had a long 5-month losing streak in the late part of 2008. He lost singles and tag team matches during that time. He would break the streak in a match against Big Show on the January 16, 2009 episode of SmackDown.
MVP formed a formidable tag team with Mark Henry. MVP was finally released by WWE on December 2, 2010.
He returned to the company after 8 years in 2018 but his appearances were few and far between. MVP became a regular after forming The Hurt Business along with Bobby Lashley. The Hurt Business faction is highly appreciated by fans and critics alike. The faction previously had Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin as well, but they were removed eventually.
