Former WWE star Lana reacts to Naomi Osaka swimsuit debut on Sports Illustrated
Lana has congratulated tennis ace Naomi Osaka on Twitter after she created history on Sports Illustrated with a new swimsuit wear.
Osaka announced that she is the first Haitian and Japanese woman on Sports Illustrated, a proud achievement with recent buzz surrounding the Japanese.
Lana congratulated the World No. 2 with a simple “Congratulations” after she appeared on Sports Illustrated for the first time in her career.
The famous Swimsuit Issue in 2021 has featured Osaka on its cover, becoming the first female Black athlete to do so.
Osaka, who will be playing for Japan in the Olympics, was photographed by Yu Tsai for one of three covers. She posed in Norma Kamali swimwear and earrings from Beads by Cowrie.
“I wouldn’t have thought that I would have been the first one. I’m glad that this barrier is being broken”
Sports Illustrated swimsuit editor-in-chief MJ Day spoke in a press release saying: (h/t Insider)
“There’s no question that Naomi is one of the best athletes in the world, and a cover spot felt obvious. We celebrate Naomi for her passion, strength, and power geared towards consistently breaking barriers when it comes to equality, social justice, and mental health.”
Osaka, who was missing from the last 2 Grand Slams, will appear in the Tokyo Olympics, starting on 24th July.
Lana has not been seen since her release in June. She was one of the high-profile names released alongside Braun Strowman and Aleister Black. Lana was working up her way on the singles roster on RAW, before the decision was made due to suffering budget cuts.
Lana is ready for her next move and will wait a 90-day no compete clause, before she can sign for any promotion. With husband Miro on AEW, she could follow his footsteps and join Tony Khan’s newfound company.
