Jinder Mahal feels Drew McIntyre must owe him a lot for his resurgence
A decade ago, it would have been hard to believe that Drew McIntyre would become one of the hottest properties in the pro-wrestling business.
Today, he is one of the biggest stars in WWE. The Scotsman has seen a phenomenal rise and surge in the past couple of years.
During his first stint with WWE in the early 2010s, McIntyre could never make it past the second tier of wrestlers. ‘The Chosen One’ wasn’t getting that much attention.
In 2017, he came back a bigger and muscular man, after being away from the promotion for three years. McIntyre quickly became the NXT Champion, and slowly began stamping his authority in the main roster as well.
By early 2020, he was already one of the biggest names in the pro-wrestling world.
A massive resurgence indeed. But, Jinder Mahal, ‘The Modern Day Maharaja’ has taken credit for ‘The Scottish Psychopath’s rise to the top.
In a recent interview with Fightful, Mahal spoke about how he had “been there done it all’ before McIntyre did:
“I came to WWE before Drew. Came back. Became WWE Champion before Drew. Main evented all over the world before Drew. Did all this media before Drew. Now Drew touts himself as this great media machine and everything. Doesn’t stop talking about how much media he does. Guess what? We all do it. I was there. We all do it. We all have our turn. I’m still doing it. I just don’t advertise it.” [via ringsidenews]
Jinder Mahal says he showed Drew McIntyre the way
Jinder Mahal didn’t stop there. He went on to claim that the new-age Drew McIntyre wouldn’t have even existed had it not been for the ‘Modern Day Maharaja.’
Here is what Mahal had to say:
“You see Drew McIntyre wearing this suit. Where do you think he got his style from? The Maharaja, right? All the swagger, all this confidence. If there was no Modern Day Maharaja as WWE Champion, there would be no Drew McIntyre. I showed him the way. I showed him it was possible. I gave him the belief in himself.” [via ringsidenews]
