Paul Heyman explains why WWE got the timing right for Roman Reigns’ heel turn

Roman Reigns turned heel a while back but there had been calls for this to happen a few years back too

Roman Reigns shocked the WWE Universe by turning heel last year. However, there had been calls from some sections for this to happen a few years back too.

Reigns seemed to be the perfect wrestler to turn heel. WWE, for their part, kept him as a face for an extremely long time.

Some sections of the WWE Universe would end up booing Reigns during shows. But teaming up with Paul Heyman let out the heel version of The Big Dog.

This might be the best the WWE fans might have seen of Reigns and The Tribal Chief is doing an excellent job on SmackDown.

Timing seemed to be everything for the heel turn for Reigns, and that is exactly what Heyman told GIVEMESPORT:

“There’s an old expression in this industry: ‘timing is everything’. This was the time to pull the trigger because this kind of presentation wouldn’t have worked two years ago.”

Heyman added that Reigns now has a burden on himself to help his family and also be the “centerpiece of the WWE Universe”.

The Advocate also brought up the wear and tear that Reigns has faced over the years as part of the heel turn:

“Two years ago, his face wasn’t weathered enough, he still looked too young, he wasn’t in enough main events – even though he main-evented four WrestleMania’s in a row.”

An authentic and real heel Roman Reigns

Heyman went on to say that had WWE pulled the trigger on a heel Reigns two years back, it wouldn’t feel right.

However, that isn’t the case at the moment:

“Two years ago you’d think it was just a script. Today he looks the part and delivers the goods. You understand this is not only believable and credible, but this is real.”

The Tribal Chief certainly is doing his part on SmackDown and he might be the best heel in WWE at the moment.

Roman Reigns spears Edge on SmackDown (WWE)

Reigns is going to WrestleMania to face Edge but has a hiccup on the road. Daniel Bryan takes on Reigns at Fastlane and the title is on the line.

There is more too with Jey Uso and Edge meeting on SmackDown and the winner will be the enforcer for Reigns’ match at Fastlane.
