Paul Heyman shares why he chose to work with Roman Reigns after Brock Lesnar

Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar had a long run before the former aligned with Roman Reigns on SmackDown

From 2012-2020, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman were the names in the WWE industry. The might of Lesnar and the oratory magic of Heyman on the mic was a perfect combination.

‘The Beast Incarnate’ won everything and beat everyone in sight with Heyman at ringside. But that run came to an end after WrestleMania 36.

Drew McIntyre beat Lesnar to win the WWE championship at ‘The Show of Shows’ in an crowd-less arena, with Heyman looking stunned in the background.

Lesnar had decided not to renew his WWE contract and Heyman, who only returned to WWE in May 2012 on Lesnar’s special request, now had to reconsider his future too.

Just where do you go from managing Brock Lesnar? As it turns out, you turn to managing Roman Reigns.

And speaking to Sports Illustrated, Heyman revealed that he chose Reigns because of The Big Dog’s pursuit for greatness.

“For me to pursue, in front of the camera, life after Brock Lesnar, the only lure that could seduce me to even attempting such an impossible goal was to do it with someone that would live their life in the pursuit of achieving that impossibility, and that’s Roman Reigns.”

Heyman appeared in a backstage segment in August 2020 where he aligned himself with ‘The Tribal Chief’.

This saw Reigns turn heel for the first time since 2014. And as it has turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened to Reigns’ career at that point.
