Another spell of releases and firings at WWE today catches everyone by surprise
WWE is seemingly in a big decline financially. Covid-19 or not, the appeal of the promotion has been dwindling recently because of a variety of reasons.
Be it a lack of good storylines or massive push for other wrestling promotions, WWE seems to be in a tight spot. That headache multiplies when coupled with the pandemic.
The closing of arenas and restriction in travelling has hit the entertainment industry. For the past two Aprils, WWE has released a bunch of BIG names to make up for the loss.
Apart from that, the NXT division announced releasing 9 personnel (including Velveteen Dream) just a few days back. And it has not ended there for the company.
According to PWInsider, a new round of firings are underway at WWE which has seen ‘a lot’ backstage employees released from from the promotion.
The Digital Department, which includes the WWE Network, is said to be hit the hardest. One big name let go by the company is Jaylar Donlan.
The former WWE’s Executive Vice President, Advanced Media Group, was only recently named in the Forty Under 40 Sports Executives by Sports Business Journal.
Apart from that, some other big names have also fell which has apparently ‘shocked’ those who survived the cuts. One ex-WWE employee who was sympathetic to the cause of the released employees was Renee Paquette, who wrote on Twitter:
“I hate seeing great, talent[ed] people lose their jobs. But on another note: there’s some great, talented people on the market now. Snatch em up! Anyone that’s been under the WWE umbrella for some time will undoubtedly prove their talent and worth in whichever market the[y] choose.”
Young herself left the company on her own terms in August 2020 and has since written a cookbook while being pregnant with AEW star Jon Moxley’s child.
